After we traveled around Hakone. Now it’s time to take a rest at Japanese style hotel or ryokan in Japanese
This is our room. It has the Japaneses traditional feeling. I do some research later and found that this hotel has opened for almost 400 years.
Although the hotel is old. Its facility, amenities and accessories are up to other hotel standard.
When we came to the room, the manjuus are on the table as welcome gift with the guide how to live in the hotel.
If you see Hanasaku Iroha which is the anime about ryokan, you will know what make each ryokan hotels unique from each others. Good room, good hot spring bath and delicious meals. Ryokan hotels usually serve the dinner around 6 – 7 PM. If you can’t make it, they will clean it up.
The ryokan I lived serves the dinner at their restaurant. Not in the room as we see from media. They will place each room names on each tables because some room may make the special order such as sashimi, boiled fish etc. which must be prepare beforehand.
Ours is just the standard meal that is hot pot of Hakone pork. They had already put anything in the pot. Just ask staffs to light the fire, wait it to hot and enjoy. They prepared 2 sauces to eat with it. The sesame mizo sauce which its taste is like the condensed mizo soup and sour and little salty ponzu sauce.
Appetizers are look good. I eat all of them except the smoked duck which my sister also can’t eat them in this state. So she put them in the hot pot instead.
Steamed tofu eat with japanese pepper and yuzu sauce. When I opened the lid to take this photo, the staff take the lid from me, closed it and say “This is my work!” in English. It seems that it is the duty of staffs to prepare our food in every steps except one. Eating. Really appreciate their service.
The grilled dish is roast squid on magnolia leaf. The outside is very delicious but inside is too raw for us. It’s only the dish that we don’t really like.
The last dish is deep fried sole with various vegetable and starchy sauce. It’s really our life saver for this meal.
The dessert is sherbet. It’s very good taste after eating a lot of food in this meal.
Overall the taste is very Japanese traditional like. Although we love it but we can’t take of that raw squid. Some dished need a little of soy sauce. It will help the taste better for our mouths.
After we finished our dinner. It’s time to take a bath. Our hotel has 3 bathrooms. 2 are public bathrooms where are for each genders and family bathroom (Like the one in LOVEPLUS+ when we go to the Atami trip.) that need the reservation before using.
Luckily there is an open air bath in our room. So we don’t need to take a bath in them. The water inside is from the hot spring and is also the same one they use in all bathrooms. However the temperature outside is very cold which we don’t like to go outside naked.
It would be good if we can jump into the tub directly but in the guide given to us said that we need to wash our bodies first. So I washed myself by hot water and then jump into the tub. It’s very comfortable when in the bath tub. Love it.
After took a bath, it’s time to sleep. In many Japanese media, the hotel will prepare mattress or futon for guest but this hotel we need to prepare them by ourselves.
The view from our room in the morning.
The view from an open air bath.
You will see the river when look down.
Now i’s time for breakfast. If we go to the restaurant late, they will clean up your meal. The breakfast is is fried dried Japanese house mackerel.
The stream rice in the pot for 2 persons.
There is the egg in our meal so I asked the staff what is it. It’s is soft-boiled egg. Eating it with sauce.
Miso soup in hot pot. Forget the ordinary miso you found in Japanese restaurants. This one is better.
Hotel prepares the beverage for breakfast. They have western tea, coffee, orange juice, Japanese green tea and mineral water which we think that they may take it from their hot spring. The same one they used in their bathroom.
We opened our room windows and take the photo out side before checkout.
We saw some kind of tubes that connect between this hotel and its branch where is on the mountain.
Now it’s time to leave the hotel. I really need to be here more but we have the place to go.
We took the slow Hakone Tozan Bus back to Hakone-Yumoto station.
We came to the station early so we had the time to take some photo here.
Station staffs bow to the incoming train. Maybe they give the respect to passengers.
We took the Romancecar back to Tokyo. This time train is Model 30000 EXE. Not so luxury like Type 50000 VSE but it’s better than taking the normal train.
The seats are still the romance seats.
The table for the front row seat is hidden in the armrest.
Although we didn’t take luxury VSE, but we are lucky to sit on the front row of EXE. We see how train conductor operate the train. He is very careful and always speak all step he did loudly.
Finally we are at Shinjuku station.
Now it’s time to explore Tokyo. Please look forward to it.
Hello!
I was wondering how much did it cost per day at the Ryokan Hotel you stayed it?
Thanks!
Around 14,000 yen per person.
